Currently my son “D” is working his way through the “Series of Unfortunate Events” by Lemony Snickett. I think he’s on book 10 or 11 of 13. They make a good quick read for kids, which is important for my son (he has ADHD) and the author does a good job of engaging the reader…personally I can’t stand them because I always feel so sorry for the Baudelaire kids but my son loves their resourcefulness and the way they stick together and always look on the bright side of things.

As for myself I’ve been working off and on through the Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher. Part detective noir, part Anita Blake vampire hunter, part Groucho Marx comedy it’s one of the most enjoyable series’ I’ve ever read. The TV series is really good too!

And finally together we are working our way through an unaltered, unedited version of Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper.” We’re both learning new words (something you should never grow tired of!) and I’m really impressed at how quickly he’s picking up on the story and how invested he’s become in the fate of our intrepid adventurers Tom Cany and Prince Edward. It’s another one I’d strongly recommend.
